Privacy policy
Last updated: June 2026. Placeholder — full policy to be completed before public launch.
Who we are
CountingCarbon is operated by David Lewis, based in the United Kingdom.
What data we collect
- Account data: your email address and hashed password.
- Household data: carbon footprint entries you enter, including energy readings, transport logs, and other categories.
- Usage data: standard web server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited). Logs are retained for up to 30 days.
Why we collect it
We use your data solely to provide the CountingCarbon service — storing your footprint history and displaying it back to you and your household members.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising.
Legal basis (UK GDPR)
Processing is necessary to perform the contract with you (providing the service you signed up for) and, where applicable, based on your consent.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the account settings page, which hard-deletes your user record. Household carbon data persists unless you are the last member of the household.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data. To exercise these rights, email privacy@countingcarbon.dtlewis.com.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking cookies.
